A MONSTER IN THE MAKING

A formal precedent taken from nature (the noble mushroom) is merged with a tectonic precedent taken from the industrial world (the bland ceiling fan) to create a character for animation. The character was then modulated in order to be combined with other students’ work and create a public transportation service for life on the edge.

Developed through both physical prototyping and digital modeling, elements of the original Monster were incorporated into the design of a kite.

In the post-apocalyptic future, nearly all of man kind has been wiped out by a combination of manmade and natural disaster. With old technology long gone and defunct, different groups of survivors have adapted in ways both futuristic and primitive. 

History is full of conflicts over resources and the future is no exception. Objects are created as tools and end up weapons, a series of cyclical events. One group, known simply as The Technical Group, has designed a new system of agriculture (nutrient harvesting) and population control. The nomadic travelers explore the earth in search of land and natural resources, while building up nutritional caches.

Biologically modified insects have been cultivated to facilitate an efficient harvest of these natural resources. The Mosquito deploys a temporary sedative into the host extracting moisture and nutrients. The engorged pod is then harvested and consumed or stored underground.
